An annual, erect plant 40-50 cm high. Matiola flowers are small, purple, with a pleasant strong smell, opening in the evening, collected in a loose inflorescence. The plant is cold-resistant, unpretentious, grows best in neutral, clay soils and sunny places, although it can bloom in semi-dark places. Widely used for balcony gardening.
